The Book Crack Analysis in Structural Concrete
The Author Zihai Shi
The Publisher Butterworth-Heinemann
Release Date2009-06-17
Genre Technology & Engineering
Pages 344
ISBN 0080942229
Language English, Spanish, And French

READING: This new book on the fracture mechanics of concrete focuses on the latest developments in computational theories, and how to apply those theories to solve real engineering problems. Zihai Shi uses his extensive research experience to present detailed examination of multiple-crack analysis and mixed-mode fracture. Compared with other mature engineering disciplines, fracture mechanics of concrete is still a developing field with extensive new research and development. In recent years many different models and applications have been proposed for crack analysis; the author assesses these in turn, identifying their limitations and offering a detailed treatment of those which have been proved to be robust by comprehensive use. After introducing stress singularity in numerical modelling and some basic modelling techniques, the Extended Fictitious Crack Model (EFCM) for multiple-crack analysis is explained with numerical application examples. This theoretical model is then applied to study two important issues in fracture mechanics - crack interaction and localization, and fracture modes and maximum loads. The EFCM is then reformulated to include the shear transfer mechanism on crack surfaces and the method is used to study experimental problems. With a carefully balanced mixture of theory, experiment and application, Crack Analysis in Structural Concrete is an important contribution to this fast-developing field of structural analysis in concrete. Latest theoretical models analysed and tested Detailed assessment of multiple crack analysis and multi-mode fractures Applications designed for solving real-life engineering problems

The Book Fractography
The Author Derek Hull
The Publisher Cambridge University Press
Release Date1999-09-23
Genre Science
Pages 366
ISBN 0521646847
Language English, Spanish, And French

READING: Fracture surfaces are produced by breaking a solid. The appearance of the surface, particularly the topography, depends on the type of material - metal, polymer, ceramic, biomaterial, composite, rock - and on the conditions under which it was broken - stress (tensile, shear, creep, fatigue, impact), temperature, environment (air, water, oil, acid), etc. This 1999 book describes ways of studying the surface topography, and the interpretation of the topographical features in terms of the microstructure and the way it was tested. Fractography has numerous applications in a range of materials, and is particularly relevant in materials science and to inter-disciplinary subjects involving materials science, including physics, chemistry, engineering, biomimetics, earth sciences, biology and archaeology. This book provides the basis for an understanding of deformation and fracture in all solids, for interpreting fracture surface topography, and for the design of clear and unambiguous experiments involving many aspects of fracture in a wide range of solids.

She is a wanderer and has lived in many places, but now we encounter her in her current abode of Buenos Aires, Argentina. She uses the name Diana and works as a sous-chef, in order to assimilate herself into normal life. She has many talents, and is gifted with keen insight. In her human form, she has an odd way of being able to help people, but her curse still afflicts her. She must kill to survive. Brutal murders are being discovered around the city, and a man investigating them will cross paths with her in a chance meeting. They encounter each other again, at a Tango dance hall, and neither would ever be the same after that. She has to be wary about her relationships with humans, but will she let herself go this time? Will she be able to explore human emotion on a deeper level, perhaps putting at risk the life of the very man who manages to open her heart? Will he find out that the woman he has fallen for is the very monster he is trying to catch? This is a chilling novel, but it also deals with the human psyche, duality, exploring other sides of ourselves, tapping into our senses, a womans power, vulnerability, love, detachment, mortality, societys hypocrisy, and of course- how appearances can be deceiving.
