READING: Food is not only something we eat, it is something we use to define ourselves. Ingestion and incorporation are central to our connection with the world outside our bodies. Food's powerful social, economic, political and symbolic roles cannot be ignored - what we eat is a marker of power, cultural capital, class, ethnic and racial identity. Bite Me considers the ways in which popular culture reveals our relationship with food and our own bodies and how these have become an arena for political and ideological battles. Drawing on an extraordinary range of material - films, books, comics, songs, music videos, websites, slang, performances, advertising and mass-produced objects - Bite Me invites the reader to take a fresh look at today's products and practices to see how much food shapes our lives, perceptions and identities.

READING: Now that this book of poems has been completed, from more than a glance, it can easily be considered a testament. One of persistence and endurance—a true literary example of what it means to be stubborn. Of course, one might presume that “love,” whatever you may define it as, could have very well had something to do with these words. But that’s not quite so. As the author thought he had laid shining eyes on his wife, his prize, his everything—he simply began falling. Quicker than what he was once used to. Harder than what most would consider detrimental. Our poet soon found himself dancing with an effect that would later be estimated irresistible. He consequently led himself to not only think, but believe with all of his heart that he could seduce this particular young lady enough to receive unconditional reciprocation, at the very least. No... His desired results could not have been any further from the shape and circumstance of the current relationship in fact—illusive toxicity is the name. But despite the excessive cocktails of stagnancy and mania, the medley of illustrations was written nonetheless. After two and a half years of experiences on a two seat merry-go, here and now, Bite Me stands as an account that highlights the trials, tribulations and painful complications that by no means fail to accompany the choice of denying that dreamed unison is more likely than not, never meant to be. All of this in the midst of dramatic and sometimes comical strokes of passion is unquestionably what to be expected. Help yourself to a collection seemingly provided by a child needing nothing more than to have an adult strike his hand; just say, “No. Stop.” But apparently the adult here remains absent nevertheless.

If that weren't annoying enough, his neighbor, Angelica Winthrop has literary aspirations of her own and is sneaking into his house at night just to see what she can find. Hungry, tired, and fed up, Ian is in no mood to humor his beautiful intruder...

READING: Introducing Holly Mitchell. They call her Hard-ass Holly, and she didn't earn the name by giving people second chances. Profession: Assistant General Manager for the Dalton Hotel. Her secret fantasy: To be dominated. Who would have known? Tristen Reese, aka Reese, is the ultimate rogue--cosmopolitan male by day, playboy by night. Women don't enter his bedroom expecting to stay long. It's a high-traffic speedway, not a parking lot. Profession: Assistant General Manager for the Gold Star Hotel. His not-so-secret fantasy: To dominate. The owners of the Dalton and Gold Star hotels have decided to merge. Once the merger takes effect, either Holly or Reese will be promoted to GM of both hotels. The competition: Both Holly and Reese have 45 days to prove his/her worth to land the position. The loser will have to work under the other. Enter The Fantasy: When the going gets tough, the tough find ways to alleviate the pressure. A little R & R (Relaxation and Role-playing) never hurt anyone. Unless... Hard-driven competitors who go for the throat...and who have never met...sign up for a fantasy weekend in Paris, France, where they unknowingly become role players in the same fantasy...in the same bed... Special Content Alert: Light D/s Excerpt: Either she or Tristen Reese would be promoted to General Manager for the Gold "and" the Dalton, and the promotion included a mind-boggling pay hike. The one "not" chosen to fill the GM position would continue on as Chief Marketing Officer for both hotels. A raise in salary plus commissions would also apply to compensate for the extra workload, plus additional marketing personnel would be at his or her disposal. Both opportunities sounded wonderful if it weren't for the big, silent but attached. Either she or Reese would be answerable to the other who held the superior position. Then she was told that in order to decide who would be the most suitable candidate for the GM's job, they each had forty-five days to chase down as many new accounts as possible. The one with the higher number would stand a better chance of winning the competition. In addition, they had the same amount of time to compile a presentation, explaining why they would be the best person for the GM's position. Based on performance and the outcome of the interview, the Miranda brothers would make their decision. The competition had begun on March 15th . . . yesterday. Holly had never met Reese. Hadn't even spoken to him on the phone, but she despised the sneaky bastard with all her heart. The thought of working under him made her want strap on some concrete boots and jump off a bridge. About once a week, he sent her an email that said, "Have a nice day," which she knew damn well wasn't a friendly greeting but rather his way of tormenting her. He had kept her so busy chasing her own tail for the past two years that she worked overtime nearly every day to win back the accounts that he had stolen. Obsessed with beating Reese at his own game, she didn't leave the hotel until eight P.M. every week day except Friday, and worked at home nearly every weekend. And sex? What was that? She hadn't gotten a whole lot of action before she had started working at the Dalton, and what little she had been able to get, had stopped abruptly when the overtime had started. The only time Holly relaxed was when she and the other six women from the exec offices drove over to an Irish pub on Sunset Boulevard for a few beers every Friday to ring in the weekend. She didn't care that she would have to work with a mild hang-over the next day, since she'd be working from her living room. All that mattered was taking in a little R & R, big-city style. And it was there that the trouble all began . . . .

READING: Ally was at a breaking point when she woke up in a psych ward at the age of eighteen. She couldn't put a sentence together, let alone take a shower, eat a meal, or pick up a phone. What had gone wrong? In recent years, she had produced a feature film, a popular reality show for a major network, and had acted in an off-Broadway play. But now, Ally was pushed to a psychotic break after struggling since she was seven years old with physical symptoms that no doctor could explain; everything from joint pain, to night sweats, memory loss, nausea, and brain fog. A doctor in the psych ward was finally able to give her the answers her and her family had desperately been searching for, and the diagnosis that all the previous doctors had missed. She learned that she had Lyme disease-and finally had a breakthrough. What she didn't know was that this diagnosis would lead her down some of the most excruciating years of her life before beginning her journey to recovery from eleven years of misdiagnosis and physical pain. She would need to find her courage to heal physically, mentally, and emotionally, and become the survivor she is today. Set against the backdrop of the fast-paced fashion and entertainment industries, BITE ME shares the heartbreaking and hilarious stories that moved Ally forward on her journey from sickness to health. Its themes will be familiar to more than 300,000 Americans diagnosed with Lyme disease each year, many of whom, like Ally, wondered for years what was wrong with them. BITE ME offers readers hope and ideas for how one can transition from victim to survivor, and shares the spiritual principles and actions that have contributed to her wholeness as a human, mother, and international spokesperson against Lyme disease.

READING: **Author's note: Dear readers: this is a reissue of my memoir "Winging It: A Memoir of Caring for a Vengeful Parrot Who's Determined to Kill Me". I have always wanted to offer the digital version of this book at an affordable rate and have finally gotten the rights back to my book to do so. With this I changed the title and the cover. Hope you enjoy! A gift from an overseas relative, Graycie, an African Grey parrot, arrives in the Gardiner home not long after the birth of their first child, adding the responsibilities of parrot-hood to their newfound parenthood. Jenny Gardiner and her husband were hoping for a docile, beautifully plumed, Polly-want-a-cracker type of companion—but patchily feathered, scrawny, ill-tempered Graycie was the furthest thing from what they envisioned.. In Winging It , Gardiner shares in vivid and hilarious detail the many hazards of parrot ownership, from endless avian latrine duty to discovering the multiple ways a beak can pierce human flesh. Whether she’s swearing at the dog, mimicking the sound of the smoke alarm, or bobbing to the beat of the kids clapping for her amusement, she brings the family joy, laughter, and, sometimes, tears. So why would the Gardiners subject themselves to the crazy behavior of this parrot for so long? Well, because, as the Gardiners realize, Graycie is a part of the family, and just like in any relationship between living creatures, things do not always go according to plan.. A mix of hilarious pet hijinks and a poignant story of family commitment, Winging It is a reminder of the importance of patience, loyalty, and humor when it comes to dealing with even the most temperamental members of the family. Keywords: Memoir, pets, parrots, African Grey, family issues, women, marriage

READING: It's hard enough for Dianne to be fifteen and obviously to love her parents, even worse when there's something weird about them no one quite understands. Her father being a vampire and her mother being a werewolf is a simple fact of life. More worrisome are Mom and Dad getting sick for unknown reasons, the effect an accidental display of power is having on her social life, and the possibility that the boy next door thinks she's a freak. Matthew seems to like her, yet there's something of about him. Dr. Nat Silver, a vampire with several medical degrees, may provide some answers. For the most part Dianne feels it's her wit and devotion versus a world more cruel than any supernatural being could ever be.
